With this preceding example of food policy increasing vegetable oil in Japan, the research studies the policy changes of trade liberalisation in recent East and Southeast Asian countries, especially in China, in the Corporate Food Regime McMichael,aiming to depict their roles in the re structuring of the supply chains of vegetable oils which facilitate fat intake increase of Asian nations.

The findings suggest that policies in the Second Food Regime increased fat intake of Japanese people after WW2, mainly by increase of vegetable oil intake rather than animal fat. During that period, China progressed trade liberalisation and deregulation policies, and global transnational corporations shift their strategy to Asia in the Corporate Food Regime.

The conclusion suggests that these countries have not simply increased oil imports but have consolidated into the globalized vegetable oil complex by replacing domestically-produced oilseeds and traditional methods of oil processing.
